"This morning I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the newly-created Congressional District 33," announced former U.S. Senate candidate Roger Williams this morning.

Roger Williams, a former Texas Secretary of State, will join Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams in the race for the prospective new Congressional seat, Texas' 33rd. This is a game-changer for the Republican primary, as Michael Williams was also a GOP contender for the U.S. Senate seat, soon to be vacated by the retiring Kay Bailey Hutchison.

This leaves, in the running for the Republican nod for Hutchison's old seat, former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz, fellow Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones, former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, and (likely depending on what Gov. Rick Perry decides to do about a rumored presidential run) Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

The new Congressional district would include much of Arlington and South Fort Worth, as well as mostly rural Parker and Wise counties. Roger Williams said this is his home-turf in a press release.

“Since the Texas legislature created this new district, I have been approached by countless friends and neighbors who have asked me to run in this new district,” he said. “This area has been my home and the area in which my businesses [including an auto dealership] have operated for decades. I am both humbled and honored to have such enthusiastic support from the people of this area and numerous community leaders.”
