Rep. Beverly Woolley (R-Houston) announced she is not seeking re-election next year. During her time in office, Woolley became one of the most influential members of the House Republican Caucus, serving as chair of the House Calendars Committee and later as Speaker Pro Tem. On a policy level, she is best known for her advocacy and involvement in efforts to protect private property rights and reform eminent domain.
House Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) issued the following statement: "Julie and I deeply cherish Beverly's friendship and will miss her bright smile around the Capitol. After nine terms, serving as a committee chair and most recently as Speaker Pro Tempore, Beverly is well-respected by the members for her conservative leadership, mature judgment, and her great sense of humor. My respect and gratitude for her service is unlimited. Julie and I extend our warmest wishes to Beverly and Lynn in this next phase of their lives, and we know she is already making plans to spend more time with their grandchildren."
