Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst unveiled a new camapign website today: http://www.dewhurstfortexas.com. The most noteworthy feature of Dewhurst's new site is specific citations to his record on key conservative issues.
Sometimes I've thought that Dewhurst has not always gotten full credit for a lot of his accomplishments. In the early part of his tenure as Lt. Gov., Dewhurst often got upstaged (though probably unintentionally) by Gov. Rick Perry and Speaker Tom Craddick, largely because the House operated under majority rule, rather than two-thirds, and therefore, the House versions of bills often looked more conservative than their senate counterparts. That said, getting conservative bills such as the sonogram bill on abortion, a ban on same-sex marriage, budgets in shortfall years (2003 and 2011) that do not raise taxes is no small achievement. The site does a good job of highlighting Dewhurst's main advantage in this race -- he has a substantial policy record and most of it is favorable to conservatives. No elected official has a perfect record, and there are certainly issues to discuss as the campaign progresses. But Dewhurst has a case, and it appears he's making it.
