The Texas Legislative Council is a nonpartisan legislative service agency that provides bill drafting, computing, research, publishing, and document distribution services to the Texas Legislature and related agencies.
The governing body of the Legislative Council consists of five appointments from the House speaker, six Senators from the Lieutenant Governor, the Lietenant Govenor, and the Speaker. Rep. Charlie Geren (R-Fort Worth) serves on the Legislative Council as an ex officio member, as the Chairman of the House Administration Committee has a non-voting seat on the board.
"Today, I am pleased to appoint Representatives Elkins, Farrar, Giddings, Kuempel and Thompson to serve on the Texas Legislative Council, and I welcome the continued work of ex officio member Representative Geren," Straus said. "The invaluable work of the Texas Legislative Council enables the Legislature to serve the people of Texas well. As we prepare for the next legislative session, the Council will provide vital leadership on a variety of issues."
