The Young Conservatives of Texas announced its choices for the 2010 primary cycle. Like some other organizations, there are a few YCT endorsements still pending.
"These candidates were selected after extensive research, including personal interviews, research into their past legislative ratings and detailed questionnaires," said Tony McDonald, Vice Chairman of Legislative Affairs.
Click here to view the initial list of YCT endorsements. We comment on some noteworthy endorsements and post the full list below:
YCT endorsed Gov. Rick Perry for re-election. The group endorsed State Board of Education member Ken Mercer (R-San Antonio) for re-election in district 5. In District 10 (the Cynthia Dunbar open seat), the group is backing State Republican Executive Committee member Brian Russell.
YCT endorsed against incumbent Rep. Charlie Geren (R-Fort Worth), instead choosing Matt Krause. “Charlie Geren has earned the dubious distinction of being one of only three state representatives to earn YCT’s ‘Certified RINO’ (Republican In Name Only) award,” said McDonald. “Representative Geren earned a 59 during the 81st legislative session and has a career score of 55.”
"The Young Conservatives of Texas are proud to support Matt Krause," said Laura Elizabeth Morales, Senior Vice Chairman. "We believe Matt will be a true conservative leader for the voters of District 99."
YCT also endorsed against incumbent Republicans Tommy Merritt (Longview), Todd Smith (Euless), and Vicki Truitt (Southlake). Truitt had previously had a good record with many conservative groups and still does on many of the social issues but this session, she sponsored the local option transit tax increase bill in the House.
YCT also made some recommendation in key open seats. YCT is backing Milton Rister for the Dan Gattis open seat, Van Taylor for the Brian McCall open seat, Victor Leal in the David Swinford open seat, and Addie Wiseman in the Joe Crabb open seat.
